Iran will be holding its presidential elections on June 28, after the sudden and tragic death of former president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. Iranian expats residing in the UAE will have the opportunity to participate in the election by casting their votes at polling stations set up at the country’s embassy in Abu Dhabi and consulate in Dubai. According to Iranian Ambassador Reza Ameri, steps will be taken to ensure that Iranians in the UAE can easily access these polling stations to exercise their right to vote.

Ameri assured that the transition of leadership in Iran will proceed smoothly following President Raisi’s death. The establishment remains strong, and measures will be taken to ensure the country’s administration continues without disruption. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, emphasized the importance of maintaining normalcy in the country’s administration during this time. Originally scheduled for 2025, the presidential elections were expedited due to President Raisi’s untimely passing on May 19, prompting a large gathering of mourners in Tehran to pay their respects.

The Iranian Ambassador expressed gratitude to UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and other world leaders for their condolences following President Raisi’s death. A condolence book has been opened in the UAE for both authorities and expats to offer their respects. Reza Ameri paid tribute to President Raisi, highlighting his strong connection with the Iranian people and his dedication to addressing their concerns. Raisi was known for visiting rural areas regularly to understand the challenges faced by the citizens firsthand.

Recounting the tragic event that led to President Raisi’s passing, Ameri mentioned the joint dam opening ceremony in Iran, which was followed by a visit to another project in Tabriz. The helicopter accident near the Tabriz border claimed the lives of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who were deeply respected figures in Iran. The accident had a profound impact both within the country and internationally due to the popularity and influence of the two leaders.

In light of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Ameri reiterated Iran’s stance on the issue, attributing the root cause of the problem to Israel’s occupation of Palestine. He condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza, emphasizing the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the respect for Palestinian rights. Iran stands in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance and advocates for the delivery of aid to the affected population, along with the recognition of Palestinian rights by Israel. The focus remains on ending the unjust war in Gaza and facilitating the return of Palestinians to their homes.

In conclusion, the upcoming presidential elections in Iran mark a significant turning point for the country as it navigates through the loss of President Raisi and prepares to elect a new leader. Iranian expats in the UAE will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their homeland by participating in the democratic process. The tragic circumstances surrounding President Raisi’s death have brought the nation together in mourning, highlighting the unity and strength of the Iranian people during times of adversity. As the election date draws near, all eyes will be on Iran to witness the outcome of this pivotal moment in its political history.
