The month of June marks the beginning of the date harvesting season in the UAE, and Emirati families eagerly await the arrival of the first batch of fresh dates known as ‘Tabasheer Al rutab’. These dates are a local favorite due to their soft texture and sweet flavor, drawing residents to local markets in search of the prized fruit. Vendors are busy preparing for the rush of customers looking to purchase the first harvest of the season.

Abdullah Naseeb of Al Ghousia Vegetable Fruits House LLC in Souk Al Jubail received the first batch of rutab dates from Oman, Dhaid, and nearby towns. Despite a limited crowd, loyal customers came with their families to enjoy the fresh harvest. For Emirati households, purchasing rutab dates is more than just a treat; it is a tradition and symbol of local hospitality. Families like Abdullah Al Shehi’s visit local markets to celebrate the harvest and partake in the age-old tradition.

The prices of rutab dates were higher on the first day of the market, with a 40 percent increase compared to the previous year. Nadeem Ahmed from Shahou Veg and Fruits Stall mentioned that prices were expected to fluctuate depending on supply and demand throughout the season. Different varieties of rutab dates from various regions are available at the market, each with its unique price point. From Al Khatri dates from Dhaid to Khaneezi dates from Oman, customers can choose from a range of options to suit their preferences and budget.

The delay in this year’s harvest can be attributed to heavy rainfall in April, pushing the start of the season back by a week or two. However, date farmers like Ahmed Al Mansouri assure that the quality of crops will remain high despite the delay. With the entry of rutab dates into the market, producers and sellers are gearing up for a busy season ahead, looking forward to a successful harvest. Customers can expect a constant supply of rutab dates in the market for the next few weeks, with limited fluctuations in prices as the season progresses.

The tradition of purchasing rutab dates marks a joyous occasion for Emirati families, serving as a way to celebrate the bountiful harvest and partake in cultural heritage. As the season progresses, customers can explore different varieties of dates available at the market and immerse themselves in the rich flavors and textures of the prized fruit. Whether it is the sweet taste of Khaneezi dates from Oman or the affordable options of Uchipal dates from Oman and Al Dhaid, there is something for everyone to enjoy during the date-harvesting season in the UAE.

In conclusion, the arrival of rutab dates in the UAE market signifies the start of a busy yet prosperous season for date producers and sellers. Despite the initial price surge and the delay in harvest, customers can look forward to a diverse selection of dates from various regions, each offering its unique taste and quality. The tradition of purchasing fresh rutab dates continues to be a cherished aspect of Emirati culture, bringing families together to celebrate the bounty of the season and uphold their heritage. As the season progresses, customers can indulge in the delicious flavors of fresh dates and create lasting memories with loved ones at local markets across the UAE.
