The Public Utilities and Environment Committee of the Shura Council in Bahrain, led by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ali Hasan Ali, is dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The committee commended the government’s efforts, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, towards expanding Bahrain’s green spaces to meet obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. They approved the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) to revitalize the agricultural sector and promote modern agricultural technologies.

The committee anticipates that these initiatives will lead to an increase in green areas, boost agricultural industries, and enhance environmental awareness through educational programs. World Environment Day is an important opportunity to address global environmental and climate change challenges and urge collective action to protect the planet. This year’s theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience” aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals focused on water and sanitation availability, sustainable management, and urgent climate action.

The Shura Council in Bahrain is committed to enacting environmental legislation in line with international standards and actively participates in international forums to discuss environmental issues, including the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Bahrain’s focus on environmental sustainability and green growth aims to create a healthier and more prosperous future for future generations.

Overall, Bahrain is dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability, with a focus on expanding green spaces and revitalizing the agricultural sector. The government’s initiatives align with global efforts to address environmental and climate change challenges, promoting collective action to safeguard the planet. The Shura Council is actively engaged in international forums and discussions to ensure that Bahrain’s environmental legislation meets international standards and contributes to a healthier and more prosperous future for all.
