The Saudi Ministry of Commerce has declared the recent elections for the Board of Directors of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce null and void due to technical errors in the electronic voting system. The ministry instructed the Elections Committee to revoke the results after it was discovered that some votes were cast illegally. Despite efforts to allow all members to vote, some were unable to do so before the polling period ended. The ministry has extended the current board’s term for three months or until a new board is formed, and will take legal action against violators.

The ministry’s decision was made in response to objections raised regarding the elections held from April 28 to May 5, 2024. The ministry emphasized its commitment to ensuring free and fair elections with transparency, justice, and the protection of voters’ and candidates’ rights. The decision was based on appeals submitted to the Objections and Appeals Committee, as well as technical reports indicating illegal voting practices that prevented some members from casting their votes on time.

Following coordination with relevant authorities, the ministry took action to ensure fair election results. It is important to note that the ministry will implement legal measures against those found to have violated election regulations. The ministry’s priority is to uphold the principles of democracy and transparency in election processes, and to safeguard the rights of all participants. The decision to nullify the results and extend the current board’s term reflects a commitment to upholding the integrity of the election process.

The ministry’s decision highlights the importance of adhering to proper procedures in election processes and ensuring that all members have the opportunity to participate. By revoking the election results and extending the current board’s term, the ministry is demonstrating its commitment to holding fair and transparent elections. This decision also serves to protect the integrity of the Chamber of Commerce and uphold the trust of its members in the election process.

Moving forward, the ministry will continue to monitor election processes closely to prevent any future technical errors or illegal voting practices. By taking swift action to address the issues that arose in the recent elections, the ministry is sending a clear message that it will not tolerate any violations of the election process. Upholding the principles of fairness, transparency, and justice in elections is essential to maintaining the credibility and integrity of the Chamber of Commerce and ensuring that all members’ voices are heard.

In conclusion, the Saudi Ministry of Commerce’s decision to nullify the results of the recent elections for the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors reflects a commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and fairness in election processes. By extending the current board’s term and taking legal action against violators, the ministry is sending a strong message that it will not tolerate any illegal practices in elections. Moving forward, the ministry will continue to prioritize transparency and accountability in election processes to ensure that all members have the opportunity to participate and that their voices are heard.
