Nemo Mettler, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, was welcomed back to Switzerland with a hero’s welcome at Zurich Airport. Fans gathered in the hundreds to greet the 24-year-old singer with cheers, hugs, and cowbells, showing their support and excitement for his victory. Nemo won the contest in Malmo, Sweden, with his highly personal song, The Code, which resonated with audiences across Europe. The fans eagerly awaited his arrival, passing the time by singing renditions of The Code, showcasing their admiration for the artist.

As Nemo emerged from the flight wearing a fluffy sweater featuring a rabbit holding a carrot, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. The singer greeted his fans with a double thumbs-up, took selfies, signed autographs, and celebrated with a group hug. At a press conference following his arrival, Nemo mentioned plans to relax in the garden and humorously referenced breaking the winner’s trophy, symbolizing breaking the code mentioned in his song. Biel’s Mayor, Erich Fehr, expressed pride and joy in Nemo’s achievement, emphasizing the significance of a local artist winning such a prestigious competition. The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation chief, Gilles Marchand, praised Nemo’s success and highlighted the economic and cultural potential of hosting Eurovision. The event will showcase Switzerland’s artistic abilities and attract international attention to the country.

The anticipation for Nemo’s return to Switzerland reflects the pride and admiration felt by his fellow citizens. As plans are being made for the official reception in Biel, the city is considering partnering with nearby Bern to handle the logistics of hosting Eurovision. The event presents a significant opportunity for Switzerland to showcase its talents on a global stage, with the arts and tourism sectors expected to benefit from the exposure. Nemo’s journey from a local artist to an international sensation has captured the hearts of the Swiss people and established him as a symbol of musical excellence.
