The Ministry of Interior and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) have implemented advanced technologies and digital solutions to simplify travel procedures for Hajj pilgrims benefiting from the Makkah Route Initiative. This initiative, launched in 2017 and temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizes cutting-edge systems and equipment with artificial intelligence to streamline the process. The use of a mobile device with a fingerprint sensor and cameras allows for automatic completion of procedures, biometric authentication, and verification of travel documents.

SDAIA technology experts are present at 11 airports in seven countries where pilgrims under the Makkah Route Initiative arrive in the Kingdom. Recently, Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan, welcomed its first batch of pilgrims under the initiative. The initiative, part of the Doyof Al-Rahman Program under Vision 2030, aims to provide high-quality transportation services for pilgrims from their countries of origin. By completing immigration procedures at their departure airports, pilgrims can avoid lengthy delays upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.

The Makkah Route Initiative involves issuing electronic visas, biometric verification, and processing passport procedures at the departure airport. Luggage is coded and sorted for delivery to pilgrims’ residences in Makkah and Madinah. Upon arrival, pilgrims are directed to buses for transportation to their accommodations, while service agencies manage the delivery of their luggage. The cooperation of various government entities, including the ministries of foreign affairs, health, and Hajj and Umrah, ensures the smooth implementation of the initiative.

The use of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence in the Makkah Route Initiative reflects the commitment of the Saudi government to enhance the Hajj experience for pilgrims. By automating procedures and leveraging digital solutions, the initiative aims to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability for travelers. The seamless integration of biometrics, passport data, and communication systems enables a smoother process for pilgrims, particularly the elderly and individuals with disabilities.

The success of the Makkah Route Initiative highlights the ongoing efforts of the Saudi government to modernize and innovate in various sectors, including transportation and pilgrimage services. By leveraging technology and collaboration among different agencies, the initiative has transformed the way pilgrims from around the world experience the Hajj journey. As part of Vision 2030, the initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s goal of promoting technological advancements and enhancing the overall pilgrimage experience for visitors.

In conclusion, the implementation of advanced technologies and digital solutions in the Makkah Route Initiative represents a significant step forward in improving the Hajj pilgrimage experience for travelers. By simplifying travel procedures, leveraging artificial intelligence, and enhancing safety and reliability, the initiative demonstrates the Saudi government’s commitment to innovation and modernization in the pilgrimage sector. Through continued collaboration and investment in technology, the Makkah Route Initiative is poised to further enhance the experience for pilgrims and contribute to the overall success of Vision 2030.
