Qatar National Blood Donation Center at HMC Inaugurated by Health Minister

The Qatar National Blood Donation Center in Doha was inaugurated by Minister for Public Health HE Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari. The event was attended by various dignitaries including His Excellency Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal Al-Thani and Dr. Mohammed Eid Al Thani. It was announced that two halls in the new facility will be named after His Excellency Sheikh Eid bin Mohammad Al Thani, in recognition of Eid Charity’s support to the center.

The new center will serve as the sole source for blood and blood components for all government and private hospitals in Qatar. It boasts advanced facilities such as 38 blood collection beds, therapeutic plasma exchange procedures, and dedicated spaces for various medical procedures like stem cell collection and platelet apheresis. Dr. Einas Al Kuwari highlighted that the center will also enable the freezing of rare blood groups and rare phenotypes in the near future.

Dr. Al Kuwari emphasized the importance of blood donations in saving lives and improving the health of patients. She mentioned that blood donations are crucial for medical procedures like surgeries, trauma care, and treating chronic conditions such as cancer and blood disorders. The center aims to provide a smoother and more comfortable experience for blood donors.

The center’s Chief of Health Facilities Development, Hamad Nasser Al Khalifa, and Dr. Einas Al Kuwari provided insights into the features of the new building and the services it offers. Dr. Al Kuwari expressed gratitude to regular blood donors for their contribution and encouraged others to step up and donate blood to support the community of blood donors. The availability of an adequate and safe blood supply is essential for the healthcare system.

The Qatar National Blood Donation Center will house male and female medical interview/assessment rooms, donation beds, and beds for platelet collection. It will be equipped with advanced technology to facilitate the processing and storage of blood and blood components. Dr. Einas Al Kuwari mentioned that one unit of blood donated can benefit at least three patients if used as separate blood components, highlighting the significance of regular blood donations.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the Qatar National Blood Donation Center marks a significant milestone in enhancing the capability of HMC’s Blood Donation Program and ensuring a reliable source of blood supply for medical procedures in Qatar. The state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated spaces for various medical procedures demonstrate the commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to the community. Regular blood donations are crucial in saving lives and improving the health and quality of life for many patients across the healthcare system.
