The Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, recently announced that pilgrims will have access to flying taxis and drones during this year’s Hajj season, providing a unique and advanced mode of transportation. These technologies are being introduced by various specialized companies in the transport sector, aimed at providing the best means of transport in the coming years. Al-Jasser highlighted the need to learn about these technologies and create the appropriate environment for their operation during the Hajj season, with the largest number of these transport options expected to be available during this time.

Last year, Al-Jasser mentioned that flying taxis would be tested during the Hajj season in the near future, with Saudi Arabian Airlines also planning to operate flying taxis between King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and hotels in Makkah. The airline has announced plans to purchase around 100 aircraft to offer this service. Abdullah Al-Shahrani, the spokesperson for the Saudia Group, revealed that the airline is preparing to use air taxis as a new mode of transportation during the Hajj season. They have contracted the purchase of 100 Lilium jets, German electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, to transport pilgrims between Jeddah airport and hotels in Makkah.

The Lilium jets used for air taxi services are among the first aircraft to operate entirely on electric power, offering a more sustainable transportation option. Pilgrims traveling for Hajj and Umrah will be flown from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to airstrips in hotels near the Grand Mosque in Makkah. An air taxi is a small commercial aircraft that provides short flights on demand, catering to the needs of travelers during peak seasons like Hajj. This initiative reflects the commitment of Saudi Arabia to innovation and modernization in transportation services for pilgrims visiting the holy sites.

The introduction of flying taxis and drones during the Hajj season marks a significant development in the transportation options available to pilgrims, enhancing their overall experience and convenience. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics is leading the way in utilizing advanced technologies to improve the efficiency of transportation services during major religious events. The use of electric-powered aircraft also aligns with the Kingdom’s efforts towards sustainability and reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector.

As these technologies continue to be tested and implemented in the field of transportation, they are expected to revolutionize the way people travel to and from religious sites like Makkah and Madinah. The convenience and speed offered by flying taxis and drones will not only benefit pilgrims but also contribute to the overall development of the transport sector in Saudi Arabia. By investing in innovative solutions for transportation, the country is positioning itself as a leader in modernizing transportation services for pilgrims and residents alike.

In conclusion, the integration of flying taxis and drones into the transportation options available during the Hajj season reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of pilgrims and visitors. These advanced modes of transport offer a glimpse into the future of travel, with electric aircraft paving the way for more sustainable aviation practices. With ongoing developments in the transport sector, Saudi Arabia is poised to set new standards for transportation services not only during Hajj but also for everyday travel within the Kingdom. Pilgrims can look forward to a seamless and efficient journey with the introduction of these innovative transportation solutions.
