Following weeks of inconvenience, major crowding, and long commutes caused by the closure of four Dubai Metro stations in mid-April due to unexpected rainfall, commuters can now breathe a sigh of relief as services are set to return to normal on May 28. Many residents have been forced to seek expensive alternatives like taxis or endure significantly longer travel times since last month. The closure of Onpassive, Equiti, Mashreq, and Energy stations due to record-breaking rains and subsequent flooding across the UAE has disrupted the daily routines of many commuters.

Marwa B, a Sudanese expat and Deira resident, has experienced an elongated journey due to the closure of some metro stations, turning what was once a one-hour trip into a three-hour ordeal. To manage crowd control during peak hours, the RTA has implemented crowd management procedures to ensure a smooth journey for commuters. Some commuters, like Marwa, have had to bear additional expenses to avoid the crowd, such as taking taxis during warmer weather to save time and energy on their way to work.

Moneeba Khan, an Indian expat who relied on the OnPassive metro station for her daily commute, faced daily struggles due to the station’s closure. Long waiting times forced her to frequently book taxis, impacting her expenses. Khan expressed relief upon hearing the news of the metro’s upcoming return, as it will alleviate the challenges she faced during the closure. Carmela Manaba, a Filipino expat, also faced her own challenges during the closure, leading to extended travel times and added stress to her daily routine. The impending return of the metro has brought relief to commuters like Carmela, who eagerly await normal operations and the smooth journeys the Dubai Metro is known for.

In conclusion, the closure of four Dubai Metro stations in mid-April due to unprecedented rainfall has caused major inconvenience to commuters, forcing them to seek expensive alternatives or endure longer travel times. The impending return of the metro on May 28 will bring relief to many residents who have been affected by the closures. Commuters like Marwa B, Moneeba Khan, and Carmela Manaba have faced their own struggles during the closure, with extended travel times, additional expenses, and added stress to their daily routines. The return of normal metro services will help restore normalcy to the daily lives of these individuals and countless others who rely on the Dubai Metro for their daily commutes.
