The Omani Human Rights Commission (OHRC) recently attended the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) meetings and conference in Geneva. Led by Dr. Rashid Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of the OHRC, the delegation discussed the strategic plan of the Global Alliance and the challenges facing national institutions responsible for human rights. They also explored ways to strengthen cooperation between regional networks affiliated with the GANHRI.

In addition to participating in the GANHRI conference, Oman’s delegation took part in a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions. This meeting focused on reviewing the program of the Arab Network for 2024 and examining the latest efforts and developments related to the Palestinian cause. The delegation expressed support for the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the State of Palestine and discussed updating the strategy of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions in the coming years.

The discussions in Geneva highlighted the importance of international cooperation in promoting and protecting human rights. By participating in these meetings and conferences, the OHRC is able to exchange knowledge and best practices with other national institutions and regional networks. This collaboration is essential for addressing the complex challenges facing human rights organizations and finding effective solutions to safeguard the rights of all individuals.

The meetings in Geneva also provided an opportunity for Oman’s delegation to showcase the country’s commitment to upholding human rights at both the national and international levels. By actively engaging in discussions on strategic planning and cooperation, the OHRC demonstrates its dedication to promoting a culture of human rights within the region and globally. Through these efforts, Oman continues to play a vital role in advancing the principles of human rights and supporting the work of national institutions worldwide.

As a member of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, Oman is able to contribute to the development of global human rights standards and practices. By sharing its experiences and perspectives with other members of the Alliance, the OHRC can help shape the future direction of human rights advocacy and protection. This collaborative approach ensures that Oman’s voice is heard on the international stage and that its efforts to promote human rights are recognized and respected by the global community.

Overall, the participation of the Omani Human Rights Commission in the GANHRI meetings and conference in Geneva underscores the country’s commitment to advancing the principles of human rights and strengthening international cooperation in this field. By engaging with other national institutions and regional networks, Oman is able to make meaningful contributions to the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide. Through its active involvement in these discussions and initiatives, the OHRC reinforces its role as a leader in human rights advocacy and a champion for the rights and dignity of all individuals.
