Qatar Aspiring Doctors Program (QADP) is a prestigious yearlong program organized by the Office of Student Outreach and Educational Development at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) to prepare high school students for a career in medicine. Thirty-nine students from 24 schools recently completed the program, receiving certificates of completion and honors. The program includes advanced instruction in physical sciences, biology, research skills, and college writing and reading. Participants must be in grades 10, 11, or 12, demonstrate excellence in sciences and mathematics, and be nominated by their high school counselor.

Dr. James Roach, associate dean for pre-medical education at WCM-Q, commended the students for their commitment to academic excellence and personal growth during the program. The curriculum includes monthly face-to-face sessions, hands-on activities, and online self-paced modules. Successful completion of the program requires dedication and self-discipline, as mentioned by one of the participating students, Essa Mubarak Al-Buainain, who described it as a profound journey that fostered self-directed learning. Another student, Fatma Wael Al Emadi, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to become the best version of herself and apply the skills acquired at WCM-Q to her future educational and professional endeavors.

Dr. Rachid Bendriss, professor at WCM-Q, highlighted the importance of the QADP in supporting talented high school students with a passion for mathematics and sciences in their journey towards studying medicine. The program aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to become physician-scientists of the future. Since its inception in 2015, the QADP has attracted a growing number of academically gifted students who eventually join WCM-Q’s Foundation and Pre-medical programs. The closing ceremony of the program celebrated the achievements of the students who successfully completed it, recognizing their hard work and dedication.

Through a blend of in-person sessions, hands-on activities, and online modules, the QADP provides a unique opportunity for high school students to enhance their academic skills and knowledge in preparation for medical studies. The dedication and commitment shown by the participants in completing the program have been praised by faculty members at WCM-Q. Aspiring doctors like Fatma Wael Al Emadi and Essa Mubarak Al-Buainain have shared their transformative experiences during the program, emphasizing the personal growth and skills development they have undergone.

In conclusion, the Qatar Aspiring Doctors Program continues to attract academically talented high school students who are passionate about pursuing a career in medicine. The success of the program is evident from the achievements of its participants who go on to join WCM-Q’s medical programs. The QADP plays a crucial role in shaping the future physician-scientists of Qatar by providing them with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills essential for success in the medical field. Congratulations to all the students who successfully completed the program, and best wishes for their future endeavors in the field of medicine.
