French police peacefully evacuated dozens of students from Sciences Po in Paris as they protested in support of Palestinians. The students had gathered in a building on campus waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans in solidarity with residents of Gaza. The protest came amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas following a deadly attack on October 7. The university administration had closed the main buildings and moved classes online due to the occupation of the building by the pro-Palestinian students.

The Sciences Po building had been occupied since Thursday evening, prompting the university administration to take action to evacuate the students. Similar protests were planned to take place in front of the Pantheon monument later on Friday to call for an end to Israel’s offensive in Gaza. Last week, tensions rose near the elite university as pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli demonstrators faced each other in a standoff. Riot police were deployed to separate the groups and the protest ended peacefully as the pro-Palestinian students agreed to leave the scene.

Protests in support of Palestinians took place in other universities across France, including in Lille and Lyon. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that police had been requested to remove students from 23 sites on French campuses and all were successfully evacuated within a few hours. Police presence will continue near Sciences Po to prevent any further blockades by protesters. The actions taken by the French police in evacuating the students peacefully echo similar actions seen in the United States amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Sciences Po, known for its prestigious alumni including President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, has faced increased tensions as protests in support of Palestinians have gained momentum. The pro-Palestinian students have been organizing demonstrations to condemn Israel’s offensive in Gaza. The peaceful evacuation of the students by French police highlights the government’s efforts to prevent further blockades and maintain order on university campuses.

The solidarity demonstrations in France reflect the global concern over the conflict between Israel and Hamas, with protests taking place in various countries. The students at Sciences Po showed their support for Palestinians through peaceful protests and raised awareness of the ongoing violence in Gaza. The evacuation of the protesters by the French police signifies the government’s commitment to upholding peace and order while allowing freedom of expression.

Overall, the peaceful evacuation of pro-Palestinian students at Sciences Po by French police demonstrates the government’s response to protests in support of Palestinians amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict. The solidarity shown by the students reflects the global concern over the violence in Gaza. The actions taken by the French police to evacuate the protesters peacefully highlight the government’s effort to maintain order on university campuses and prevent further blockades. The protests at Sciences Po and other universities in France shed light on the ongoing conflict and the impact it has on communities around the world.
