Traffic accidents in Bahrain have been on the rise, with a recent report from the Ministry of Interior shedding light on the situation. Shockingly, 48% of accidents led to severe injuries, while 43% caused minor injuries and 9% ended in fatalities. The report also highlights the leading causes of these accidents, with speeding violations accounting for 28% of all violations and red light violations at 24%.
In addition to speeding and red light violations, improper parking, failure to wear seatbelts, and expired registration certificates were also identified as common violations contributing to accidents. The report shows that improper parking accounted for 11% of violations, while failure to wear seatbelts and expired registration certificates each contributed to 3% and 5% of violations respectively. Furthermore, 1% of violations were attributed to using mobile phones while driving, with the remaining 28% falling under other categories.
The report also delves into the volume of traffic in Bahrain, revealing that as of June 2024, there are 760,645 registered vehicles in use on the roads. It also provides insights into travel statistics through various entry points in the country. The King Fahd Causeway, for example, saw a total of 2,887,927 passengers, with 1,431,932 arrivals and 1,445,995 departures. Bahrain International Airport recorded 486,498 passengers, with 213,032 arrivals and 273,466 departures, while seaports saw a total of 3,582 passengers, with 1,912 arrivals and 1,670 departures.
Emergency response statistics during June 2024 show that 67% of calls received were for emergency response, with 29% related to traffic incidents and 4% for security-related issues. These numbers highlight the importance of prompt and efficient emergency services in handling various situations on the road. As such, increased awareness and adherence to traffic rules and regulations are essential in reducing the number of accidents and ensuring the safety of all road users in Bahrain.
