Water misting systems are being used at this year’s Hajj in Mecca to help pilgrims stay cool in the soaring heat. The tall water-misting columns around Al-Rahma hill are spraying water on pilgrims as they gather at Mount Arafat for day-long worship and reflection. Cooling stations have been set up at Mina and the Grand Mosque, providing relief to pilgrims on the roads leading to the mount and in its surrounding areas. The heat at Mount Arafat has already reached 47C (116.6 F), prompting Saudi Arabia’s National Centre for Meteorology to take action to combat the extreme temperatures. With the number of pilgrims expected to exceed two million this year, authorities are urging pilgrims to use umbrellas and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. A pilgrim from France with Tunisian roots, Noureddine Al-Rifai, emphasized the importance of consuming cold water and staying in the shade to beat the heat.

The use of water misting systems is part of the efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage. As the number of pilgrims is expected to approach pre-coronavirus pandemic levels this year, providing relief from the high temperatures becomes even more crucial. The water-misting columns around Al-Rahma hill and the cooling stations at Mina and the Grand Mosque are essential in helping pilgrims cope with the extreme heat while carrying out their religious rituals. With temperatures reaching as high as 47C (116.6 F) at Mount Arafat, it is essential for authorities to implement measures to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure the health of the pilgrims.

Pilgrims at Mount Arafat are taking precautions such as carrying umbrellas and staying in the shade to protect themselves from the scorching sun. The importance of staying hydrated is also emphasized, with many pilgrims consuming cold water to keep cool. The combination of using umbrellas, seeking shade, and drinking water helps pilgrims mitigate the effects of the extreme heat at Mount Arafat. These simple yet effective measures can make a significant difference in preventing heat exhaustion and heatstroke, which are common risks in such high-temperature conditions.

The water misting systems and cooling stations provide a much-needed respite for pilgrims as they perform their religious duties during the Hajj pilgrimage. The refreshing mist and cool water spray help pilgrims lower their body temperature and prevent heat-related illnesses. The authorities’ efforts to ensure the well-being of pilgrims by implementing such measures demonstrate their commitment to creating a safe and comfortable environment for all participants. By utilizing innovative solutions like water misting systems, the authorities prioritize the health and safety of pilgrims, allowing them to focus on their spiritual journey without being hindered by the extreme heat.

In conclusion, the use of water misting systems at this year’s Hajj in Mecca plays a crucial role in helping pilgrims cope with the soaring temperatures and stay cool during their religious journey. The implementation of cooling stations and the distribution of umbrellas and water is essential in ensuring the well-being of the pilgrims, especially as the number of participants is expected to exceed two million. By taking simple precautions such as staying hydrated, seeking shade, and using umbrellas, pilgrims can protect themselves from the heat and concentrate on their spiritual rituals. The efforts of the authorities to provide relief from the extreme temperatures through water misting systems reflect their commitment to the safety and comfort of all pilgrims. As pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat to engage in worship and reflection, the availability of water misting systems and cooling stations proves to be a lifeline in the face of the scorching heat, allowing pilgrims to fulfill their religious obligations with peace of mind.
