Police in Rotterdam are currently investigating a knife attack that resulted in the death of a 32-year-old Rotterdam native and the serious injury of a 33-year-old Swiss citizen. The attack occurred near the Erasmus Bridge, a popular landmark in the city. The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Amersfoort, was arrested after being overpowered by members of the public and police. Witnesses reported the alleged killer shouting “Allahu akbar,” an Arabic phrase meaning “God is great.” The motive for the attack is still unknown as the investigation continues.

According to a witness, Reniël Renato David Litecia, he intervened and managed to disarm the attacker by hitting him with two sticks and throwing the knives away. Despite initial thoughts of it being a fight, Litecia realized that it was a serious attack when he saw the man with two knives stabbing another individual. The culprit then turned towards bystanders as Litecia shouted for help. Another police spokesperson, Kristel Arntz, stated that the attacker targeted one person in an underground car park and a second victim at one end of the bridge over the New Maas river. The authorities are still in the process of determining the motive behind the attack.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Amersfoort, is currently in custody, but his identity has not been released due to privacy guidelines. The police have also withheld the names of the victims involved in the incident. Witnesses reported the alleged killer shouting “Allahu akbar,” during the attack, but the authorities have not confirmed if this is related to a specific motive. The investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the attack to come forward and assist with the case.

The knife attack in Rotterdam has left the community in shock and mourning for the loss of a local resident and the serious injury of another individual. The incident took place near the Erasmus Bridge, a well-known landmark in the city, raising concerns about safety and security in public spaces. While the suspect is in custody, questions about the motive behind the attack remain unanswered. The police continue their investigation to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event.

The heroic actions of witnesses like Reniël Renato David Litecia, who bravely intervened to disarm the attacker and prevent further harm, highlight the importance of community solidarity in times of crisis. Litecia’s quick thinking and bravery likely saved lives and prevented additional casualties during the attack. The authorities are commending his actions and calling for others to come forward with any information that may aid in the investigation. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and quick action in emergency situations to protect the safety of all individuals involved.

As the investigation into the knife attack in Rotterdam continues, the community remains on edge, seeking answers and reassurance about the safety of public spaces. The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Amersfoort, remains in police custody, but details about his identity and motives have not been disclosed.
