The investigation into the sinking of the superyacht Bayesian off Sicily’s coast has widened to include the crew, particularly the captain, James Cutfield. The yacht sank in a storm, resulting in the deaths of seven people, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch and his daughter. The crew members have also been questioned by magistrates and may be under investigation. Cutfield is being defended by two prominent lawyers and is set to be questioned again on Tuesday. The crew’s testimonies are crucial in determining what happened and if any mistakes were made.

Many questions remain regarding the sinking of the superyacht Bayesian, such as why it remained anchored offshore during bad weather, and how it sank so quickly despite being hailed as ‘unsinkable’. Investigators are also exploring the possibility of a waterspout or downburst causing the sinking. The boat’s movable keel being partially raised may have contributed to the stability issues. Coast Guard divers are inspecting the wreck and monitoring the fuel tanks for potential spillage, while plans are being developed to salvage the wreck.

Under Italian law, being under investigation does not imply guilt or lead to criminal charges. Cutfield is determined to defend himself against the charges brought by the prosecution. The crew members’ testimonies are crucial in determining if any mistakes were made that led to the tragic sinking of the yacht. The ongoing investigation will shed light on the events surrounding the sinking and who may be held responsible for the deaths of the seven individuals who perished.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on determining the chain of events that led to the tragic sinking of the superyacht Bayesian off Sicily’s coast. The testimonies of the crew members, including the captain, are crucial in understanding what happened and if any mistakes were made. The possibility of environmental factors, such as a waterspout or a downburst, causing the sinking is being explored. The salvage operation of the wreck is underway to prevent fuel spillage and safely raise the boat to the surface. The findings of the investigation will provide clarity on the events leading to the sinking and any potential liability for the tragic incident.
