India’s T20 World Cup champions received a warm welcome upon their return to New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi even taking the time to meet the team led by captain Rohit Sharma. The arrival was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl, but that did not dampen the spirits of the fans who eagerly awaited the team’s return. The players were seen wearing jerseys that proudly displayed the word “Champions”, reflecting their victorious moment in Barbados.

An emotional fan expressed his joy at witnessing the team’s success, hailing it as a moment he will never forget. The excitement was palpable as the players walked out of the airport with gold medals around their necks, signaling their triumph in the final against South Africa. Despite the monsoon rain, fans gathered in large numbers to greet their cricketing heroes and catch a glimpse of the World Cup trophy.

The victory marked the end of an 11-year drought for India in global cricket trophies, with their last triumph coming in the 2013 Champions Trophy. The 2011 World Cup win under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni still holds a special place in the hearts of Indian cricket fans. Coach Rahul Dravid was also honored by fans, with one supporter holding up a poster thanking him as “Mr Dependable”.

Notable players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 international cricket post the final match. The team’s journey back from the Caribbean on a special Air India charter became a hot topic on the plane tracking website Flightradar24, as fans eagerly followed their heroes’ return. Overall, the T20 World Cup victory brought joy and pride to the nation, uniting cricket enthusiasts in celebration of India’s success on the global stage.
