Winners of Green Innovation Hackathon announced in Nizwa

The winners of the “Green Innovation Hackathon” competition, organized by the Department of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, were announced today in Nizwa. The competition saw the participation of 37 students from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Nizwa. This event represents a significant milestone in promoting green innovation and sustainability in the region.

The event was a huge success, with 10 out of 30 student teams qualifying for the final stage. Hilal bin Badr Al Rashidi, Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, highlighted that the hackathon serves as a platform for innovation and teamwork. The competition encouraged young people, both males and females, to collaborate and develop innovative solutions to pressing environmental issues.

### Innovative Projects on Display

The competition witnessed some truly innovative projects. The Renova team from the University of Nizwa won first place for producing smart asphalt from recycled glass. This project not only showcased the team’s creativity but also demonstrated a practical solution to waste management. By utilizing recycled glass, the team was able to create a product that is both environmentally friendly and functional.

The Furat (Euphrates) team, also from the University of Nizwa, secured second place for designing a water filtration project. Their innovative approach to addressing water scarcity issues was commendable. Meanwhile, the MARBX team took third place for producing sound-and-heat insulation panels using marble waste. This project highlighted the potential for repurposing industrial waste into valuable products.
