Virat Kohli, the star batter of India, is gearing up for the upcoming first Test against Bangladesh with the goal of surpassing his counterparts Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson in the long-format cricket arena. The two-match series between India and Bangladesh is set to commence on September 19 in Chennai, followed by the second Test on September 27 in Kanpur. Head coach Gautam Gambhir will be eyeing a series win in his first Test assignment. Missing the home series against England earlier this year, Kohli has been consistent in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, scoring 369 runs in four matches with an average of 61.50. He is just 152 runs away from reaching the milestone of 9,000 Test runs, making him the only Indian to achieve this feat.

Kohli’s ultimate goal is to reach the 9,000 run mark in Test cricket, as he currently stands at 8,848 runs in 113 Tests. He has scored these runs in 191 innings, with an impressive average of 49.15, including 29 centuries and 30 fifties. In his quest for this milestone, Kohli will be aiming to surpass the record set by Sachin Tendulkar, who is India’s highest run-getter in Tests with 15,921 runs. Kohli is also the fourth-highest run-getter in international cricket history, with 26,942 runs in 533 matches. Just 58 more runs will get him to the 27,000 international runs mark.

Despite his impressive career statistics, Kohli has faced a dip in form this year. In 2021, he has struggled to make an impact, scoring only 296 runs in 14 matches with an average of 19.73. With just one half-century in 15 innings, Kohli will be eager to turn things around and regain his form in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Following this series, India will face New Zealand in a three-Test series starting from October 16, and then the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar series in Australia from November 22. Kohli will aim to use these upcoming challenges as opportunities to showcase his talent and lead India to victory on the international stage.

In conclusion, Virat Kohli’s upcoming Test series against Bangladesh will not only be an opportunity for him to achieve the 9,000 run milestone in Test cricket but also to overcome his recent run of poor form. With a series of crucial matches lined up against New Zealand and Australia, Kohli will be looking to reset and prove his mettle as one of the best batters in the world. As India’s most prolific run-scorer in Tests and a prominent figure in international cricket, Kohli’s success on the field will play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s performance in the upcoming series and beyond. Fans of Indian cricket will eagerly await Kohli’s performance on the pitch as he looks to add more accolades to his illustrious career.
