Venezuela continues its crackdown on Bitcoin mining operations, as the nation’s army recently seized 35 rigs in a raid on a farm in Guárico. Despite President Nicolás Maduro’s recent statements about returning the country to the crypto path, police and army officials are actively pursuing illegal crypto miners. The military seized 35 mining devices, 30 extractors, and electric fans from the illegal miners who did not have the necessary permits or licenses to operate Bitcoin mining operations.

The Venezuelan government has been dispatching the military to disconnect Bitcoin mining farms that use illegal connections to the National Electric System. Maduro’s administration has blamed illegal Bitcoin and altcoin miners for recurring power outages in the country over the past few years. The recent raid in Guárico was carried out in collaboration with Public Ministry officials, and the miners were operating in a private house in the Juan Germán Roscio Nieves municipality. The military also seized vehicles during the operation.

According to the Strategic Command Operations of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, Venezuela has a legal framework that regulates crypto mining activities, including registration systems for miners, exchanges, and related services. The Ministry of Electrical Energy has stated that cracking down on illegal miners will alleviate pressure on the power grid and allow for the provision of efficient and reliable service to all citizens. Maduro condemned a group of “bandits and thieves” for obstructing previous crypto adoption efforts and emphasized the country’s need to return to the crypto path.

During the peak of the Venezuelan government’s crypto initiative, the army’s engineering core was ordered to mine BTC. However, soldiers have now been redeployed to combat illegal Bitcoin miners, conducting raids across the country since last year. The ongoing crackdown on illegal crypto mining operations reflects the government’s effort to regulate the industry and address the challenges posed by unauthorized miners on the power grid. With the military seizing mining rigs and equipment, it is evident that Venezuela is actively enforcing regulations to control crypto mining activities and protect its electrical infrastructure.

In the midst of economic challenges and power struggles, the Venezuelan government’s campaign against illegal Bitcoin mining highlights the complexities of integrating cryptocurrencies within a traditional economic framework. By targeting unauthorized miners and enforcing regulations, the government aims to ensure the stability and reliability of the country’s power supply while reiterating its commitment to the crypto path. As the crypto industry continues to evolve globally, Venezuela’s approach to regulating mining activities serves as a case study for balancing innovation and compliance in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

Despite the crackdown on illegal Bitcoin mining, Venezuela’s journey towards embracing cryptocurrencies remains a dynamic and evolving process. As the government navigates the complexities of regulating the crypto industry, the ongoing enforcement actions signal a commitment to upholding legal standards and protecting the integrity of the power grid. With the military actively seizing mining equipment and cracking down on unauthorized operations, it is clear that Venezuela is determined to address the challenges posed by illegal crypto mining and establish a regulatory framework that aligns with international standards. The country’s efforts to regulate crypto mining underscore the importance of balancing innovation and compliance in the digital economy’s future development.
