Unicharm Gulf Hygienic Industries has announced a strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia’s upcoming entertainment destinations, Six Flags Qiddiya and Aquarabia Qiddiya City. The agreement designates Unicharm Gulf Hygienic as the official Family Care Partner for both parks, committing the company to supply its range of hygiene products to visitors. This collaboration is set to improve family comfort and well-being at these major leisure facilities.

The partnership, revealed this week, will see the availability of Unicharm’s flagship brands – BabyJoy diapers, Sofy feminine care products, and UNO tissue – throughout Six Flags and Aquarabia. Both parks are currently under development as part of the Qiddiya project, a gigacity aiming to become a global tourism hub southwest of Riyadh. The move underscores Unicharm’s long-term commitment to the Saudi Arabian market and its alignment with national development goals.

Unicharm’s Expanded Role in Saudi Arabia’s Growing Entertainment Sector

This collaboration extends Unicharm Gulf Hygienic’s significant presence in Saudi Arabia, where it has been manufacturing hygiene products for over three decades. The company leverages Japanese technology within its local production, establishing a reputation for quality among consumers. Their established infrastructure and brand recognition position them well to meet the demands of the anticipated high visitor numbers at Qiddiya.

Strategic Alignment with Vision 2030

The Qiddiya project is a core component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a national strategy to diversify the economy and improve the quality of life for its citizens. Unicharm Gulf Hygienic states that its activities directly support this vision, particularly in areas such as enhancing quality of life, promoting economic diversification, and fostering societal well-being. The company also highlights its efforts towards women’s empowerment as a contributing factor.

Additionally, the partnership serves as a commercial acknowledgement of the importance placed on visitor experience within the Qiddiya development. Providing readily accessible personal care products like diapers and feminine hygiene items is viewed as a crucial element in ensuring a comfortable and family-friendly environment. This decision is common for large-scale entertainment venues globally.

BabyJoy’s Market Position and Brand Focus

BabyJoy, Unicharm’s leading babycare brand, currently holds the number one market position in both Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. According to Unicharm, this success stems from a deep understanding of the needs of parents and a commitment to supporting them throughout the parenting journey. This understanding will likely inform the product placement and availability within the parks.

However, the supply chain logistics for ensuring consistent product availability across two large theme parks present a potential challenge. Unicharm will need to efficiently manage inventory and distribution to meet fluctuating demand, especially during peak seasons and events. This requires robust planning and potentially dedicated on-site personnel.

Meanwhile, the broader Saudi market for consumer packaged goods, including hygiene products, continues to expand. A growing population, increasing disposable incomes, and a push for domestic manufacturing are key drivers of this growth. Competition within the sector remains high, with both local and international brands vying for market share.

In contrast to some regional manufacturing trends, Unicharm’s focus on incorporating advanced Japanese technology into its Saudi Arabian facilities demonstrates a commitment to maintaining high product standards. This approach resonates with a segment of Saudi consumers increasingly prioritizing quality and innovation. The company emphasizes its “Gentle Care for Life” philosophy as a core brand promise.

Looking ahead, the complete integration of Unicharm’s products into Six Flags Qiddiya and Aquarabia will coincide with the projected opening of the parks. While specific timelines have been subject to change, current estimates point to phased openings beginning in 2024, with full completion anticipated by 2030. Observers will be watching the actual impact on Unicharm’s sales figures and brand perception within the Kingdom following the park’s launch, alongside the overall success of the Qiddiya project as a tourist destination.
