UNICEF Oman recently wrapped up a technical mission in collaboration with the Social Protection Fund, focusing on the way forward after the successful rollout of the newly endorsed Social Protection benefits. This initiative showcases the Sultanate of Oman’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. As part of the mission, an inter-ministerial workshop was conducted to exchange best practices and strategies for strengthening social protection systems. The workshop emphasized the importance of implementing a roadmap that effectively links cash benefits with essential services through “Cash Plus” programs, designed to enhance beneficiaries’ overall wellbeing by providing financial support and access to crucial services. Additionally, the mission emphasized the need for a robust post-distribution outcome monitoring framework to monitor the implementation of the Social Protection program in Oman, ensuring optimal usage of benefits to promote the population’s welfare and evaluate the program’s impact.

Sumaira Chowdhury, UNICEF Oman Representative, highlighted the organization’s strategic objective to ensure every child has access to inclusive social protection programs that enhance their wellbeing and resilience through comprehensive social care services. UNICEF Oman remains committed to supporting the continued success of Oman’s social protection initiatives in collaboration with the Social Protection Fund and other key partners. The Social Protection Law, officially endorsed in July 2023, represents a comprehensive framework aimed at providing substantial benefits and support to vulnerable segments of the population.
