The UAE has been taking steps to prevent the spread of dengue fever by using technology to detect and destroy mosquito breeding sites and implementing human-safe pesticides. Minister of Health and Prevention, Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, informed the Federal National Council that over 400 sites where dengue-causing mosquitoes were found have been eliminated. Factors such as record-breaking rains, climate change, and urbanization have contributed to an increase in mosquito populations in the UAE.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention and Emirates Health Services have provided detailed information on dengue fever, its symptoms, prevention methods, and when to seek medical help. Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, and it cannot be transmitted directly from person to person. Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting, among others. The virus is diagnosed through blood tests, and there is no specific medicine for treatment, but management with pain medications is recommended.

To prevent mosquito-borne diseases, residents are advised to report potential mosquito sightings and breeding sites, avoid water accumulation in residential and office areas, use mosquito repellents, wear protective clothing, install anti-mosquito screens and nets, and maintain gardens and yards by regularly cleaning them and avoiding water accumulation. Mosquito traps are also effective in eliminating mosquitoes. It is crucial to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites and reduce the spread of diseases like dengue fever.

Mosquitoes live for two to four weeks depending on various factors and can bite during the day and night. They are present throughout the year and tend to increase in numbers after rains. Mosquitoes can be found indoors and outdoors and breed in stagnant water. Understanding the habits and characteristics of mosquitoes can help in effectively preventing mosquito-borne diseases and reducing the risk of infections like dengue fever. Staying informed and taking proactive measures against mosquitoes can contribute to maintaining a healthy and safe environment for residents in the UAE.
