Uganda’s U-17 football team made history by defeating France 1-0 in their final group stage match at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Doha, Qatar. The win marked Uganda’s first-ever victory in the tournament and secured their spot in the Round of 32. The match took place at Aspire Zone’s Competition Complex, where James Bogere scored the decisive goal in the 18th minute.

Despite Uganda’s win, France topped Group K due to a better goal difference, with all four teams in the group finishing level on points. Uganda finished third in the group but progressed as one of the eight best third-placed teams across all groups. Canada, who lost 2-1 to Chile in their final match, failed to advance.

FIFA U-17 World Cup: Uganda’s Historic Win and Group Stage Results

The FIFA U-17 World Cup continues with several teams advancing to the knockout stage. In Group J, Uzbekistan and Paraguay joined Ireland in progressing to the next round after a series of intense matches. Uzbekistan thrashed Panama 6-1, while Paraguay held Ireland to a goalless draw.

Uzbekistan’s victory was fueled by a strong second-half performance, with Abubakir Shukrullaev, Sadriddin Khasanov, and Sayfiddin Sodikov scoring crucial goals. Panama’s goalkeeper, Ibrokhim Shokirov, made several impressive saves, but ultimately couldn’t prevent the team’s 6-1 defeat. According to Shokirov, the pressure was massive, but his team’s response in the second half was incredible.

Other Group Stage Results

In Group I, the USA maintained their perfect record with a 1-0 win over Czechia, courtesy of a late goal from substitute Mathis Albert. Burkina Faso finished as runners-up in the group after defeating Tajikistan 2-0, with Cherif Barro and Eric Ouattara scoring in the second half. Czechia also advanced to the knockout stage despite their loss to the USA.

Mali secured a spot in the Round of 32 after defeating Saudi Arabia 2-0 in Group L. Raymond Bomba and Ibrahim Diakite scored the goals for Mali, while Austria topped the group with a perfect record. Austria’s victory over New Zealand, where they won 4-1, marked their third win in as many matches.

As the group stage concluded, hosts Qatar were eliminated after failing to secure a win in their three matches. The team’s campaign ended with losses to Italy and Bolivia, and a draw against South Africa.
