The UAE recently participated in high-level meetings of foreign ministers of the European Union in Brussels, where Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, represented the country. During the discussions, the UAE emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza conflict, unhindered humanitarian access, and the respect for international law. The country also called for the release of hostages and urged Israel to renew its commitment to the two-state solution and support a reformed Palestinian Authority.

The focus of the meetings, which included the participation of other Arab countries like Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, was on the Middle East Peace Process and strengthening cooperation between the EU and Arab countries to find a political solution to the conflict in the region. The discussions also touched on the UAE’s aid operations in Gaza, highlighting the country’s efforts in providing humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and access to drinking water to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population affected by the war.

Nusseibeh emphasized the importance of lifting restrictions on humanitarian access through border crossings and speeding up the screening of aid deliveries to Gaza. She also expressed the desire to strengthen coordination between the EU and Arab partners to ensure peace and security in the shared neighborhood. The UAE’s commitment to providing support and aid to those affected by the conflict was evident in the details shared during the meetings, including the delivery of over 32,000 tonnes of essential items to Gaza since the start of the conflict.

In addition to participating in the council session on the war in Gaza, Nusseibeh engaged in bilateral meetings with key officials, including representatives from the German Federal Foreign Office, the UN, and the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions during the two-day meetings in Brussels reflected a strong commitment from all sides towards achieving peace and security in the region. Nusseibeh’s engagements also highlighted the UAE’s diplomatic efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and work towards finding a lasting solution to the conflict.

Overall, the UAE’s participation in the high-level meetings of the EU foreign ministers underscored the country’s unwavering support for peace and stability in the region. Through its diplomatic efforts and humanitarian aid initiatives, the UAE has demonstrated its commitment to alleviating the suffering of those affected by the conflict in Gaza and working towards a sustainable resolution to the longstanding issues in the Middle East. The meetings in Brussels served as a platform for dialogue and cooperation between Arab countries and the EU, with a shared goal of promoting peace and security in the region.
