Higher education institutes in the UAE are set to undergo a significant transformation with the introduction of a national classification system. The institutes will be categorized into research and non-research institutions and rated based on teaching quality, employment alignment, research and innovation, and international collaboration. This move is considered a milestone for the education sector in the country and aims to elevate the quality of higher education while empowering families to make informed decisions for their children’s futures.

The national framework for classification has been approved by the Cabinet and will encompass both public and private institutions. Over 70 institutions will be classified, with results set to be revealed soon. The classification will also involve categorizing institutes into different levels within each category, with the goal of promoting good academic practices and creating an environment that enhances the quality of education and student life.

In addition to the classification system, higher education institutes under the federal government will implement a new scholarship system to meet the demands of the labour market. This system will allocate financial scholarships based on the review and definition of new academic seats and specializations required in alignment with the needs of the job market. The scholarships will be awarded through a predetermined mechanism to ensure that graduates have access to career opportunities and jobs upon completion of their studies.

The introduction of these initiatives is expected to enhance the overall quality of education in the UAE, promoting excellence in academic practices and fostering a conducive environment for students to thrive. By aligning higher education with the needs of the labour market, the country aims to create a more sustainable and effective educational system that produces skilled graduates who can contribute positively to the economy.

The national classification and scholarship system represent a significant step towards enhancing the reputation and quality of higher education in the UAE. By providing transparency and empowering families to make informed decisions, the country is striving towards creating a more competitive and advanced education sector that meets the evolving needs of the job market and ensures the success of its students.

Overall, the implementation of these initiatives reflects the UAE’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in the education sector. By prioritizing quality, innovation, and alignment with the demands of the job market, the country is poised to strengthen its position as a hub for higher education and research in the region.
