Tonight, a ‘blue’ supermoon will rise in the UAE, an event that will light up the sky for up to three nights. A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit. While it will not actually be blue in color, this lunar spectacle is known as a ‘blue Moon,’ which is the third full Moon in a season with four, making the Moon appear brighter and bigger than usual. According to the Dubai Astronomy Group, the supermoon will be visible for about two to three nights, with the peak brightness and size occurring tonight when the Moon is closest to Earth, but it will still be impressive the nights before and after the peak.

The supermoon will rise right after sunset, resulting in a slightly larger size of the lunar disk as viewed from Earth. The best places to catch this phenomenon in the UAE are open spaces with a clear view of the Moon, high elevated places, or waterfront areas where you can see the Moon’s reflection on water. The Dubai Astronomy Group is also hosting a paid event at City Walk where astronomers will help visitors capture photos of the supermoon on their phones through telescopes. This will be the third celestial spectacle to light up the UAE skies this month, following the Perseids meteor shower on August 12 and the close pair-up of Mars and Jupiter on August 15.

In conclusion, tonight’s ‘blue’ supermoon will provide a stunning spectacle in the UAE sky, lighting up the night for up to three nights. Although it will not actually be blue in color, this supermoon is a special event that occurs when a full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth. The Moon will appear brighter and bigger than usual, making it a must-see event for sky gazers and astronomy enthusiasts. Be sure to find a good spot with an unobstructed view to catch a glimpse of this natural wonder in the UAE. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness the beauty of the ‘blue’ supermoon in the night sky.
