The UAE authorities have confirmed a one-day paid holiday for government employees on the occasion of the Islamic New Year. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced that Muharram 1 on the Islamic calendar will be observed as a holiday. Depending on Moon-sighting, Muharram 1 is expected to fall on July 7 on the Gregorian calendar. For the private sector, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) announced that the holiday will also be on July 7.

Residents in the UAE can look forward to more holidays after the Hijri New Year. According to a list of holidays for 2024 released by the country’s Cabinet, there will be a holiday on the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s birthday. The year’s last official holiday will be during the celebration of National Day. Public holidays in the UAE are in addition to 30 annual leaves that employees can take in a year.

Other countries like Oman have also announced a holiday for the Hijri New Year, for both public and private sector employees, on July 7. This announcement translates into a long weekend for government employees and private sector companies that operate on a 5-day work-week. These holidays provide an opportunity for residents in the UAE to enjoy time off, relax, and spend time with family and friends. It is also a chance to participate in cultural and religious celebrations. The government’s decision to declare these holidays reflects the importance of honoring and observing significant events in the Islamic calendar and the country’s history.

Overall, the announcement of holidays for government and private sector employees in the UAE signifies a balance between work and personal life. It allows individuals to rest and recharge, leading to increased productivity and well-being. The inclusion of both Islamic and national holidays in the annual calendar highlights the country’s commitment to honoring diverse cultures and traditions. Residents can look forward to these upcoming holidays and make the most of their time off.
