The UAE has announced a new healthcare initiative to build 10 hospitals globally over the next decade as part of the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative. The UAE Global Hospitals Programme will invest approximately Dh550 million and construct hospitals in underserved communities to improve healthcare access for those in need. The first facility, the UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases in Surakarta, Central Java, is expected to be completed by the end of 2024 to provide crucial services to heart disease patients.

With a focus on global health equity and international cooperation, the UAE’s initiative is a significant investment in supporting institutions and projects that address health inequalities and promote sustainable development. The Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative aims to provide aid and support to underserved communities worldwide by enhancing healthcare access and improving well-being. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s commitment to improving global health under the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Heart diseases are a major health concern in Indonesia, with ischemic heart disease and stroke being prevalent causes of death and disability. The burden of these diseases has increased due to lifestyle changes, urbanization, and an aging population. Despite efforts to expand healthcare coverage through national insurance programs, the healthcare system in Indonesia struggles to effectively manage the rising incidence of heart diseases, especially in rural and remote areas. The new UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases aims to bridge healthcare access gaps and alleviate the overall disease burden.

The UAE’s commitment to global philanthropy and generosity is a core aspect of the country’s values and history. With over Dh320 billion in foreign assistance contributed since its founding, the UAE is considered one of the most generous donor countries in the world. This dedication to international cooperation and solidarity reflects the nation’s vision to support underserved communities, promote global health, and foster positive change around the world. Through initiatives like the UAE Global Hospitals Programme, the country continues to uphold its legacy of humanitarian aid and support for those in need.
