The UAE Cyber Security Council recently reported that a significant number of individuals and businesses fell victim to cyber attacks in the third quarter of 2023. The council revealed that 54 per cent of individuals were targeted by phishing websites, while 19 per cent were victims of social media scams. Additionally, 56 per cent of businesses and companies experienced data breaches during this period. Social engineering attacks, which include phishing websites, emails, social media scams, and instant messaging hoaxes, were the most common methods used by cybercriminals.

According to the council, social media scams targeted 19 per cent of individuals and 37 per cent of corporate entities. Mail phishing attempts affected 27 per cent of individuals, while instant messaging hoaxes deceived 16 per cent of people. In response to the increasing cyber threats, the council issued a warning to the public to be cautious and vigilant against social engineering attacks. It is essential for individuals and businesses to stay informed about the latest cyber security news to protect themselves from potential threats.

To safeguard against cyber attacks, individuals and businesses should implement strong security measures and regularly update their defense mechanisms. It is crucial to be aware of common tactics used by cybercriminals and to avoid sharing personal or sensitive information online. By staying informed and practicing good cyber hygiene, individuals and organizations can reduce the risk of falling victim to cyber threats. Additionally, seeking guidance from cyber security experts and investing in reliable security solutions can provide an added layer of protection against potential attacks.

As cyber attacks continue to evolve and become more sophisticated, it is essential for individuals and businesses to prioritize cyber security measures. By taking proactive steps to secure their online presence and data, individuals can mitigate the risk of falling victim to phishing scams and social engineering attacks. It is also important to educate employees and colleagues about the importance of cyber security and to create a culture of awareness within organizations. By working together to address cyber security challenges, individuals and businesses can effectively combat cyber threats and safeguard their digital assets.
