President Sheikh Mohamed expressed his sorrow over the passing of Saeed bin Ahmed Al Otaiba, a revered Emirati pioneer who made significant contributions to the UAE. Al Otaiba served in various government entities and played a crucial role in laying the foundation of the country’s economy, particularly in Abu Dhabi. The news of his death was announced on May 29, prompting heartfelt condolences from leaders across the UAE.

President Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the important role Al Otaiba played in the early years of the UAE’s development, being part of the first generation that worked closely with the late Sheikh Zayed. Sheikh Mohamed praised Al Otaiba’s dedication and sincerity in serving the country, emphasizing his lasting impact on the UAE’s progress. The news of Al Otaiba’s passing has deeply affected the nation, with many recognizing his contributions and legacy.

In addition to President Sheikh Mohamed, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also paid tribute to Al Otaiba’s memory. Sheikh Mohammed described the late pioneer as a “living memory of the capital,” acknowledging his significant role in shaping Abu Dhabi’s growth and development. Both leaders highlighted Al Otaiba’s extraordinary achievements and his profound influence on the country’s economic and cultural landscape.

Al Otaiba’s illustrious career included serving as the former chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Industry and Commerce and also chairing the UAE Federation of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI). His leadership in various business organizations contributed to the growth of the UAE’s private sector and the promotion of trade and commerce. In recognition of his valuable contributions, a street in Abu Dhabi was named after him, honoring his legacy and dedication to the country.

Born in 1916 in Abu Dhabi, Al Otaiba’s journey began as a pearl trader before expanding into commodity trading in different countries. His entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen paved the way for his success in the business world. Apart from his professional endeavors, Al Otaiba was also known for his talent in colloquial poetry, contributing significantly to the UAE’s rich cultural heritage. His multifaceted contributions and accomplishments have left a lasting impact on the nation, earning him a place of honor in the country’s history.

The passing of Saeed bin Ahmed Al Otaiba marks the end of an era for the UAE, with his legacy serving as a testament to his dedication, hard work, and commitment to the nation’s progress. As the country mourns the loss of a true pioneer, his memory will continue to inspire future generations to strive for excellence and contribute to the continued growth and development of the UAE. Al Otaiba’s significant contributions to the country’s economy, culture, and society will forever be remembered and cherished as part of the UAE’s rich tapestry of achievements.
