The recent increase in sickness cases among UAE residents has been attributed to fluctuating weather conditions, a decrease in temperatures, and the return of many individuals from summer vacations. Hospitals are reporting more cases of people falling ill with symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and respiratory problems. For instance, Karim Sheikh, an outdoor sales manager in Dubai, experienced flu symptoms shortly after returning from a trip to India, while Maria Lopez, a marketing executive, also fell sick after taking leave to spend time with family and friends.

According to healthcare specialists, the current season is a common time for flu viruses to spread due to the cooling weather, increased humidity, and the return of travelers from different regions. Residents returning from various places may bring new flu strains that find a susceptible environment in those who have not been exposed to them. It is important to be vigilant and seek medical attention if symptoms linger beyond a week or worsen.

Flu vaccines play a critical role in preventing the spread and complications of the illness, especially for high-risk groups such as the elderly, children, and individuals with compromised immune systems. Updated annually to combat prevalent strains, the vaccine can reduce symptoms’ severity if infected and lower the risk of transmission to others. In addition to vaccination, preventive measures like frequent hand washing and maintaining proper hygiene are crucial in reducing flu transmission.

For those who contract the flu, doctors recommend rest, hydration, and over-the-counter medication to manage symptoms. Antivirals may be prescribed for higher-risk groups, but it is important to seek medical attention if symptoms worsen, especially for those experiencing persistent high fever, chest pain, or severe fatigue. Families caring for someone with the flu should also take precautions like isolating the sick individual, ensuring good ventilation, and disinfecting common areas to prevent transmission within the household.

As more UAE residents return from vacations, there has been a significant increase in flu cases, attributed to the exchange of new flu strains and the acceleration of transmission through frequent gatherings. It is crucial for individuals to take preventive measures, including vaccination, to manage the spread of the virus effectively. With proper care, treatment, and prevention, the flu can be effectively managed during this season of high flu activity.
