A recent group of young creative Emirati women graduated from the ‘Talent Atelier’ program in Paris, organised by L’ÉCOLE Middle East, School of Jewellery Arts, and supported by Van Cleef & Arpels. The program focused on the history of jewellery, world of gemstones, and jewellery-making techniques. These young women shared their experiences and how the program helped enhance their skills in art and jewellery. One of the graduates, Zahra Al Marar, draws inspiration from her mother’s unique jewellery collection during her childhood. She launched Zahrah Jewellery in 2019, where storytelling plays a key role in her designs.

Fatima Al Mehairi, a multimedia and graphic design graduate, recalls her childhood outings with her mother to the market, where she learned about Arabic gold pieces. She resigned from her government job to focus on her brand, Blanck Canvas, and created wearable everyday designs inspired by Arabic gold. Amna Al Falasi, a visual artist and sculptor focusing on abstract art, draws inspiration from her visit to Paris and aims to convey positive energy and peace through her art. She has showcased her creations in various cultural exhibitions across the UAE.

Majeda Alawadhi, a civil engineer with a passion for design, launched her jewellery collection, Bloks Jewellery, blending contemporary aesthetics with Emirati craftsmanship. She founded her own brand in 2015 and views design as a hobby that allows her to express her creativity. The Talent Atelier program helped her view design from different perspectives, enhancing her approach towards colours and materials. Overall, the young Emirati women have shown creativity and passion in their respective fields, inspired by their rich cultural heritage and experiences.

The Talent Atelier program in Paris provided a platform for these young women to hone their skills, learn about the art of jewellery, and explore their creativity. Each graduate has a unique background and story that influences their designs and artistic pursuits. Zahra Al Marar draws inspiration from her mother’s jewellery collection, using storytelling to create meaningful pieces. Fatima Al Mehairi’s attachment to Arabic gold and everyday wearable designs reflects her passion for preserving cultural traditions through her work. Amna Al Falasi’s focus on abstract art and promoting peace through her creations highlights her artistic vision.

Majeda Alawadhi combines her engineering background with design to create contemporary jewellery pieces that represent Emirati heritage.
