The United Arab Emirates has recently signed an agreement with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to provide emergency food assistance to populations affected by the crisis in Sudan and South Sudan. This agreement aims to help refugees, host communities, internally displaced people, and returnees impacted by the war. The formalization of this agreement between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and WFP took place in New York, with the UAE committing a total of US$25 million in aid: US$20 million for Sudan and US$5 million for South Sudan.

The crisis in Sudan and South Sudan has left nearly 17.7 million people in Sudan and 7.1 million in South Sudan facing acute food insecurity due to the ongoing civil war in the region. Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Programme, has expressed gratitude for the UAE’s contribution, stating that it will help assist vulnerable populations at risk of famine. This contribution is part of UAE’s larger commitment of US$70 million announced at the “International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and Neighbouring Countries” in April to address the severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

With the partnership between the UAE and WFP, Lana Zaki Nusseibeh highlighted the importance of addressing widespread hunger in Sudan and neighboring countries to prevent another famine. She emphasized the devastating impacts of famine, especially on children, and called for immediate action to halt famine in its tracks. The UAE’s commitment to providing aid demonstrates its dedication to alleviating the suffering of those affected by the crisis in the region.

The agreement signed between the UAE and WFP is a significant step towards providing much-needed assistance to populations impacted by the crisis in Sudan and South Sudan. The commitment of US$25 million in aid will help address acute food insecurity and support vulnerable communities at risk of famine. This contribution is part of the UAE’s larger pledge of US$70 million to UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to tackle the severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan and neighboring countries.

The collaboration between the UAE and WFP reflects a commitment to addressing the pressing needs of those affected by the crisis in the region. The focus on providing emergency food assistance to refugees, internally displaced people, and other vulnerable populations demonstrates a dedication to alleviating suffering and preventing further escalation of the crisis. By working together, the UAE and WFP aim to make a positive impact and help alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and South Sudan.

In conclusion, the UAE’s agreement with the WFP to provide emergency food assistance to populations affected by the crisis in Sudan and South Sudan is a crucial step towards addressing acute food insecurity and preventing famine in the region. The commitment of US$25 million in aid demonstrates the UAE’s dedication to alleviating suffering and supporting vulnerable communities. By partnering with the WFP, the UAE is taking proactive steps to address the severe humanitarian crisis and prevent further escalation of the situation. This partnership underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian crises and providing much-needed assistance to those in need.
