The internet poses numerous risks, including cyberbullying, fraud, and privacy violations. However, the UAE has implemented laws to protect individuals and entities from these online threats. Federal Decree Law No 34, effective since January 2, 2022, outlines various cyber offenses and their penalties. Offenses include creating false information, invading privacy, and promoting illegal activities. Penalties for offenses such as disseminating false information can result in fines and imprisonment. Additionally, taking unauthorized photos of individuals can lead to hefty fines and imprisonment in the UAE.

To combat cybercrimes, individuals can report incidents to the nearest police station, call 999 for assistance, or use online channels. Various platforms allow for easy reporting of cybercrimes, such as the eCrimes platform by the UAE Ministry of Interior and the e-crime Dubai Police app. These platforms enable the public to report cybercrimes affecting individuals or properties by providing detailed information to aid in the investigation process.

The Aman service by Abu Dhabi Police promotes community safety and stability by allowing the public to provide information related to security, traffic, and other areas. This service operates 24/7 and guarantees the confidentiality of information providers. Reports of e-crimes can be submitted through the Abu Dhabi Police website or app by providing essential details about the incident. Moreover, the ‘My Safe Society’ app launched by the UAE’s federal Public Prosecution provides an avenue for children and parents to report cybercrimes and seek assistance.

The UAE Digital Wellbeing Support Line (80091) offers professional advice on digital challenges faced by individuals and families. Additionally, the RZAM app by Dubai Electronic Security Centre is a browser plug-in designed to detect and block malicious websites. The app scans website links, assesses webpages for harmful content, and identifies potential threats using advanced analytic techniques and machine learning algorithms. Users can download the RZAM app from various app stores and web browsers to enhance online security.
