XCath, a groundbreaking medical device company, is set to make history by performing a live robotic surgery in Abu Dhabi on a model located in South Korea. This innovative demonstration showcases the potential of remote telerobotic surgery for emergency interventional procedures, specifically for cases like stroke and cardiovascular emergencies. The company, partially owned by Sharjah-based Crescent Enterprises, is dedicated to expanding endovascular treatment robotic systems and will be showcasing their capabilities during the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week hosted by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health.

The live robotic telesurgery demonstration, scheduled to take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) on May 15th, will involve a model trial procedure conducted by Dr. Vitor Mendes Pereira, the Director of Endovascular Research and Innovation at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. This groundbreaking demonstration aims to highlight the XCath platform’s ability to support remote minimally invasive procedures for the management of acute neurovascular conditions, showcasing the potential for innovative treatment options in healthcare.

Eduardo Fonseca, CEO of XCath, expressed the importance of telerobotic procedures in providing solutions for complex care, particularly in conditions like stroke where advanced treatment options are crucial. Dr. Pereira, a pioneer in endovascular neurosurgery, shares XCath’s vision for advancing telerobotic treatment options and believes that this technology can significantly impact patient care globally. The telerobotic model trial aims to demonstrate the viability of the XCath platform in expanding access to care for patients worldwide.

In addition to the live demonstration, XCath will introduce their company, navigation challenges, and platform overview during the session at ADNEC. The company will also showcase the transformative impact of endovascular treatments for healthcare institutions in Abu Dhabi, illustrating how advanced robotic treatments can position the UAE as a hub for exceptional clinical outcomes. Neeraj Agrawal, Executive Director of Crescent Enterprises and XCath Board Member, emphasized the significance of this world-first model demonstration for emergency care, showcasing the progress and potential of venture capital investments from the region.

Dr. Pereira, known for performing the world’s first robotic-assisted neurointerventional procedure in 2019, continues to drive innovation in the field of neurovascular diseases. As a Professor of Surgery and Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto, he leads the RADIS lab, which focuses on applying innovative technologies to improve the treatment of neurovascular diseases. The upcoming live telerobotic procedure in Abu Dhabi highlights the continued advancements in medical technology and the potential for remote robotic surgery to revolutionize emergency interventional procedures globally.

The collaboration between XCath, Crescent Enterprises, and Dr. Pereira exemplifies the commitment to innovation and advancement in the field of healthcare. By leveraging remote telerobotic technology, these partners aim to address critical gaps in emergency care, particularly in cases of acute neurovascular conditions. This world-first demonstration not only showcases the capabilities of the XCath platform but also highlights the potential for transformative healthcare solutions that can benefit patients worldwide. As the global healthcare landscape continues to evolve, advancements in telerobotic surgery hold the promise of revolutionizing emergency medical interventions and improving patient outcomes.
