On a tragic day in Oman, two Emiratis, Khalid Al Mansouri and Salem Al Jarraf, along with a UAE-based Arab expat, were among the four hikers who lost their lives due to a flash flood. The group of 16 climbers was navigating the rugged terrains of Wadi Tanuf when heavy rain fell, resulting in the devastating incident. Khalid Al Suwaidi, another UAE-based trekker, shared that Al Mansouri and Al Jarraf bravely returned to help some lagging hikers but were tragically swept away by the floodwaters.

The Royal Oman Police confirmed the deaths of four individuals in the incident, including two Emiratis, a UAE-based Arab expat, and an Omani. Both Al Mansouri and Al Jarraf were experienced hikers who had explored terrains in various countries. They were known for their adventurous spirits and generous hearts, always willing to assist others who may be struggling. Ahmad, a close friend of Al Jarraf, spoke about their last trip, highlighting the physical demands of the hike and the preparation involved.

The sudden deaths of Al Mansouri and Al Jarraf have deeply impacted those who knew them. Friends and acquaintances have shared stories of their kindness and willingness to help others. Alia’a Zaghloul recalled how Al Mansouri assisted her on a hike when she felt exhausted, reflecting his caring nature. Al Jarraf’s neighbor described him as a good man, loving father, and helpful neighbor, emphasizing his positive impact on those around him. Both men were respected and admired within their communities.

Al Mansouri, a former UAE handball player and javelin champion, and Al Jarraf, a dedicated adventure sports enthusiast, were beloved figures in their respective communities. Their funeral prayers were held in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah after their bodies were repatriated from Oman. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable dangers of outdoor activities and highlights the importance of safety protocols and preparedness when venturing into challenging terrains. The memories of Al Mansouri and Al Jarraf live on through the impact they had on those they met along their adventurous journeys.
