Abu Dhabi Airports and Etihad Airways have launched the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program at Zayed International Airport (AUH) and onboard Etihad Airways flights to provide additional assistance to passengers with non-visible disabilities. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, a globally recognized symbol for non-visible disabilities, is now available at AUH. Passengers with conditions like autism, chronic pain, or anxiety can pick up their complimentary Sunflower lanyards at the Special Assistance desks in AUH to discreetly communicate their needs and receive support.

Elena Sorlini, Managing Director, and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, emphasized the commitment to providing an inclusive travel experience for every passenger through the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program. The program allows passengers with non-visible disabilities to discreetly communicate their needs and receive the support they deserve during their journey at Zayed International Airport. Staff members have undergone specialized training to better understand the needs of passengers with hidden disabilities and provide appropriate assistance, ensuring a positive experience for everyone.

Etihad Airways CEO, Antonoaldo Neves, highlighted the airline’s vision to cater to the needs of all guests and make the travel experience as smooth and seamless as possible. Etihad Airways has joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program to educate their teams on a wide range of non-visible disabilities and ensure exceptional hospitality for all passengers. Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination is the exclusive manufacturer and production center for the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyards in the GCC region, symbolizing inclusivity and dedication.

Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, represented by Secretary-General Abdulla Abdulalee Abdulla Al Humaidan, emphasized the importance of making travel accessible and inclusive for all individuals. The Sunflower lanyard serves as a powerful tool to create a supportive environment for travelers with non-visible conditions, ensuring a confident and easeful travel experience. The involvement of ZHO in producing the lanyards underscores the organization’s dedication to supporting inclusivity and empowering individuals with determination.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program at Zayed International Airport and Etihad Airways is a significant step towards creating a more supportive travel experience for passengers with non-visible disabilities. By providing a discreet way for passengers to communicate their needs and receive assistance, the program ensures a smoother and more positive travel experience for everyone involved. The comprehensive staff training and collaboration between AUH, Etihad Airways, and ZHO demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the aviation industry.
