Planning an international trip requires more than just booking tickets and packing your bags. You also need to prepare for potential health risks in your destination by getting the necessary vaccinations. The travellers’ vaccinations service in the UAE provides residents with medical consultation and recommended vaccines based on CDC and WHO recommendations. It is recommended to schedule a travel consultation at least 4-6 weeks before your departure to allow time for the body to develop immunity.

Different vaccines may be required depending on your destination, travel duration, planned activities, and individual health profile. Common vaccinations include Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid fever, Tdap, Rabies, and Meningococcal Meningitis. Some destinations may also require specific vaccinations like Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis, and Malaria. For UAE pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah and Haj rituals, it is mandatory to have the influenza vaccination card.

Consult a family medicine doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, have an immune deficiency disease, or any type of allergy. It is important to follow all instructions and precautions before travelling. Vaccines should not be administered to patients with previous allergic reactions, immune deficiencies, or severe health conditions. Children should receive vaccinations according to the National Immunisation Programme.

The cost of vaccinations and consultations may vary depending on the healthcare provider. Some health centres under Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) offer free vaccinations, while others may charge a fee. In Dubai, an online consultation through the Dubai Health app costs Dh150, with the actual vaccination cost varying. The service process involves booking an appointment, registering at the service centre, paying fees, consulting with a doctor, receiving the recommended vaccination, and updating the international vaccination card.

Make sure to bring required documents such as Emirates National ID, health insurance, and health card issued by Emirates health services for residents. It is important to stay up to date with vaccination requirements and take necessary precautions to protect yourself while travelling internationally. Preventive measures can help reduce the risk of contracting infectious diseases and ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.
