The Indian Ladies Association (ILA) has been running Speak Easy English Classes for over a quarter of a century, empowering individuals from all walks of life. This program has helped thousands of participants, including low-income workers and aspiring professionals, improve their communication skills and enhance their career prospects. Recently, a special event was held to celebrate the launch of the latest program, with chief guests Tosin Arowojolu and Sudheer Thirunilath delivering inspiring speeches on the value of communication in personal and professional growth.

The two-month course, curated by the Speak Easy Subcommittee, provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their English speaking skills under the guidance of dedicated and experienced teachers. Swasti Mehta, an instructor with 23 years of experience, mentions that around 2,500 students have already benefited from this initiative. The program has witnessed remarkable transformations, with professionals advancing in their careers, housewives gaining confidence to support their children’s education, and individuals securing better-paying jobs.

In addition to language skills, the Speak Easy English Classes also focus on holistic growth. Guest lectures by professionals such as doctors, advocates, and experts are organized to educate participants on health issues, legal rights, and labor laws. This approach extends the program’s impact beyond just language learning to benefit entire families. The ultimate goal of the program, as emphasized by Mehta, is to not just teach English but to improve lives in a comprehensive manner.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the Speak Easy English Classes continued online to ensure that no student was left behind. Mehta reflects on the determination of both teachers and students to continue learning and teaching despite the hurdles presented by COVID-19. The program’s resilience in the face of adversity serves as a testament to the power of community-led initiatives and the unwavering commitment of ILA to fostering growth, empowerment, and opportunity for all participants.

The Speak Easy English Classes have proven to be a valuable resource for individuals seeking to enhance their communication skills and advance their careers. The program’s success in empowering participants from diverse backgrounds highlights the importance of community-led initiatives in creating opportunities for personal and professional growth. ILA invites more individuals to join the current session of Speak Easy English Classes, continuing its mission of providing valuable education and support to those in need. By actively participating in programs like this, individuals can enhance their skills, improve their prospects, and contribute to the overall well-being of their families and communities.
