With summer around the corner, children are excited to jump into the water and enjoy swimming and playing games. However, for some children, the fear of water can be intimidating. Renowned coach Norhan Tarek from Nano swimming academy shares valuable insights on helping children overcome their fears while making swimming lessons enjoyable. Tarek emphasizes acknowledging children’s fears and not dismissing them as irrational. Instead, she suggests easing them into the water with confidence-boosting games to slowly increase their exposure to water.

Starting with fun games and lessons is crucial in helping children transition from fear to fun. Tarek recommends using music as a distraction during lessons and teaching children how to blow bubbles to prevent water from going up their nose. Patience is key in overcoming a fear of water, and parents should never rush or force their children into activities they are afraid of. If a child gets overwhelmed, Tarek advises taking a break and engaging in other activities on dry land.

While swimming is a fun summer activity, safety measures should always be a top priority. Tarek shares essential safety tips for children swimming in pools or at the beach, including never swimming without adult supervision, wearing safety equipment or flotation devices, and alerting an adult if a friend is in trouble in the water. It is important to never push a friend into the water, even as a prank. By following these safety measures, children can have a safe and enjoyable swimming experience during the summer.

As summer approaches, it is important to embrace the joy of swimming while ensuring children have a safe and empowering experience. A little encouragement and patience can go a long way in helping children conquer their fears and transform their fear of water into triumph. With the right approach and safety measures in place, children can enjoy the summer season to its fullest by learning to swim and play in the water with confidence and joy.
