The Doha Diamond League, set to take place on Friday at the Qatar Sports Club, is expected to feature a lineup of top track and field athletes competing for top honors. The event will showcase a variety of events, including the men’s javelin, men’s long jump, women’s 800m, men’s 400m, men’s 1500m, and women’s pole vault. Among the notable athletes competing are javelin champion Neeraj Chopra from India, long jump champion Miltiádis Tentóglou from Greece, and 800m world champion Mary Moraa from Kenya.

Neeraj Chopra, who holds the Indian record in javelin with a best throw of 89.94m, will be looking to defend his Olympic title and potentially break the 90m barrier. Other contenders in the men’s javelin event include former world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada and Olympic medallist Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic. Chopra set the tone for his gold medal-winning summer with a victory in the opening meeting of the 2023 Doha Meeting.

In the men’s 400m event, Olympic champion Steven Gardiner from the Bahamas will be making a return to Qatar after setting a national record with a time of 43.48 at the World Athletics Championships in Doha 2019. He will be up against competitors like Vernon Norwood and Quincy Hall from the USA, members of the gold medal-winning 4 x 400m relay team at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

The women’s 800m event will feature world champion Mary Moraa from Kenya and World Indoor Championships silver medallist Jemma Reekie from Great Britain. The men’s 1500m event will see Olympic silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot from Kenya facing off against world bronze medallist Narve Gilje Nordås from Norway and record-breaker Reynold Cheruiyot from Kenya.

Meanwhile, in the women’s pole vault event, competitors like world and Commonwealth champion Nina Kennedy from Australia and newly-crowned world indoor champion Molly Caudery from Great Britain will be vying for the top spot. The event will also feature other stars like world record holder Lamecha Girma from Ethiopia, Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Bednarek from the USA, and world high jump champion Eleanor Patterson from Australia.

The Seashore Group Doha Meeting is part of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League series, which consists of 15 meetings across four continents. The series kicked off in Xiamen, China, on April 20 and will conclude with a final event in Brussels on September 13-14. With top athletes from around the world competing in various events, the Doha Diamond League promises to be an exciting and action-packed event for track and field fans.
