The cybersecurity threat landscape in the UAE is constantly evolving, with three main factors at play – ransomware, data theft, and phishing. Bilal Baig, Regional Director, Technical, MMEA at Trend Micro, highlighted the increasing sophistication of AI-powered phishing attacks in the region during the company’s Risk to Resilience World Tour in Dubai. This event, held at the Museum of the Future, featured a keynote by Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security for the UAE government, discussing the partnership between the UAE and Trend Micro in enhancing cybersecurity resilience.

During the event, Baig delivered a keynote titled “Race Against Threats: Resilience in the Era of Modern Threats,” focusing on the latest threat research and the evolution of AI-driven attacks and ransomware. The CISO session explored the importance of consolidating security controls and minimizing tool sprawl for senior security leaders, emphasizing the benefits of a unified platform. The SOC session delved into innovative threat detection and response strategies, showcasing the impact of generative AI on SOC performance and the importance of integrated telemetry.

The Cloud session aimed at mitigating risks in multi-cloud environments, focusing on topics such as cloud exposure management, container security, and workload security. In the Ops session, attendees explored real-time attack surface risk management strategies to optimize operational defenses and reduce breach likelihood. Wael Mirkhan, Sales Engineer at Trend Micro, discussed the long-term risks posed by quantum computing, supply chain vulnerabilities, and AI, emphasizing the need for new security approaches to address complex challenges.

Eslam Saeed, Sales Engineer at Trend Micro, highlighted the dual nature of generative AI, discussing both its potential as a cybersecurity risk and a valuable tool. The session covered malicious uses like deepfakes and automated phishing, as well as positive applications such as advanced threat hunting and custom guidance. Overall, the Risk to Resilience World Tour in Dubai offered valuable insights and strategies for cybersecurity professionals in the UAE to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats and enhance their organization’s resilience against cyber attacks.
