Meta’s Threads is expanding its target audience to include podcasters, introducing new features to enhance discussions around their shows. The company announced on Tuesday that it will roll out changes to its platform to better serve podcast creators and their listeners.

Threads will initially introduce two new features: podcast links in the feed will have a distinct appearance with colorful backgrounds and image thumbnails, making them easier to identify. Additionally, creators will have a dedicated section in their profiles to add a link to their podcast, helping them promote their work and grow their audience.

Enhancing Podcast Discussions

Meta aims to establish Threads as the go-to platform for discussions around podcasts, leveraging the existing conversations that take place across various social media sites and podcast streaming platforms. By doing so, the company is attempting to tap into the cultural relevance of podcasts and drive user engagement.

With over 400 million monthly active users and 150 million daily active users, Threads is competing with X, which claims up to 600 million monthly active users. Capturing a significant portion of the podcast community could help narrow this gap.

Features and Analytics

Threads will focus on providing podcast hosts with insights and analytics on how conversations around their shows are resonating with fans. The platform will also develop features to help users discover new podcasts and connect with creators through discussions.

However, Meta has stated that Threads will not become a podcast distribution platform. Instead, it will concentrate on facilitating conversations and promoting engagement around existing podcasts.

This move is part of Threads’ broader strategy to differentiate itself from competitors by targeting specific creator communities. In May, the platform allowed creators to add multiple links to their profiles, and more recently, introduced a text attachment feature to enable longer-form content sharing.

Podcast Community Engagement

By targeting the podcast community, Threads is attempting to capitalize on the deep cultural ties that podcasts have with their audiences. The platform’s user base is expected to benefit from enhanced discovery features and increased engagement opportunities.

As Threads continues to develop its features, users can expect to see more enhancements focused on podcast discussions in the coming months. According to Meta, the platform will remain committed to providing a space for creators and listeners to connect and engage with one another.

Looking ahead, the success of Threads’ podcast-focused initiatives will depend on its ability to attract and retain podcast creators and their audiences. The platform’s progress will be worth monitoring as it continues to evolve and expand its offerings.
