In a bold move to crack down on illegal employment practices, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain has conducted over a thousand inspections in a single week. This intensive effort led to the arrest of 50 workers and the deportation of 154 individuals who were found to be in violation of labour laws. From May 26th to June 1st, 2024, the LMRA carried out 1,192 inspections at commercial establishments throughout the country, uncovering various breaches of both the Labour Market Regulatory Authority Law and the Residency Law.

The LMRA worked closely with several government agencies, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, to conduct joint inspection campaigns across multiple governorates. The Capital Governorate, Muharraq Governorate, Northern Governorate, and Southern Governorate were all targeted in an effort to enforce compliance with labour regulations and address irregular employment practices. By collaborating with other government bodies, the LMRA aims to ensure a fair and lawful labour market for all workers in Bahrain.

This recent crackdown on illegal employment practices is part of the LMRA’s ongoing efforts to tackle irregular employment and violations of labour laws. The Authority is urging the public to report any instances of labour market violations or irregular employment through various channels, such as their website, call centre, or the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul). By encouraging citizen participation and cooperation, the LMRA is working to create a transparent and accountable labour market that upholds the rights and well-being of all workers in Bahrain.

The LMRA’s decisive action against illegal employment practices demonstrates the government’s commitment to enforcing labour laws and protecting the rights of workers. By conducting regular inspections and collaborating with other government agencies, the LMRA aims to deter violations of labour regulations and hold accountable those who exploit or mistreat workers. Through these efforts, the Authority seeks to create a fair and conducive environment for both employers and employees, where all individuals are treated with respect and afforded the protections guaranteed by law.

Employers in Bahrain are reminded to abide by labour regulations and ensure that their employees are hired legally and provided with fair working conditions. Violations of labour laws will not be tolerated, and those found to be engaging in illegal practices may face legal action, including fines, deportation, or closure of their businesses. The LMRA’s enforcement actions send a clear message that illegal employment practices will not be condoned, and those responsible will be held accountable for their actions.

In conclusion, the LMRA’s recent crackdown on illegal employment practices in Bahrain underscores the government’s commitment to upholding labour laws and protecting the rights of workers. By conducting extensive inspections and working in collaboration with other government agencies, the LMRA is taking proactive steps to address irregular employment practices and ensure a fair and just labour market for all. Through continued efforts and public cooperation, the Authority aims to create a transparent and responsible labour market that respects the rights and dignity of all workers in Bahrain.
