The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has recently announced a tender for the repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the wooden pedestrian bridge in Arad Bay Park and Reserve. The 200-meter-long and 4-meter-wide bridge is in urgent need of repairs due to rapid deterioration caused by saltwater interaction and weather conditions. This initiative is part of the SCE’s environmental strategy to revive and rehabilitate natural sites in Bahrain and promote ecotourism.

Arad Bay Park and Reserve, declared a nature reserve in 2003, was officially opened in 2010. The park features the largest public walkway in Bahrain, spanning 3.3 kilometers and offering an ideal natural environment for walking. The project cost around 10 million dinars and includes four uniquely designed bridges, with two dedicated to pedestrians connecting different areas around the bay.

The Arad Bay Park and Reserve is home to a semi-enclosed marine reserve, attracting important organisms that contribute to the marine ecosystem. It also serves as a natural nursery for juvenile fish, plankton, and marine algae, with stocks replenished by tidal movements. The reserve is also a habitat for various resident and migratory waterbird species, making it an essential ecological site in Bahrain.

The wooden pedestrian bridge in Arad Bay Park and Reserve plays a vital role in connecting different areas and providing access for visitors to explore the natural beauty of the park. However, due to the harsh environment and weather conditions, the bridge has deteriorated over time, necessitating urgent repairs and maintenance to ensure the safety and longevity of the structure.

The tender launched by the SCE through the Tender Board website seeks qualified contractors to undertake the repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the wooden pedestrian bridge. This initiative aligns with the overall goal of the SCE to preserve and protect natural sites in Bahrain, promoting sustainable tourism and environmental conservation in the region.

In conclusion, the repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the wooden pedestrian bridge in Arad Bay Park and Reserve are essential for preserving this important ecological site in Bahrain. By ensuring the safety and longevity of the bridge, visitors can continue to enjoy the natural beauty and biodiversity of the park while contributing to the promotion of ecotourism and environmental protection initiatives in the region.
