His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman recently embarked on a “State Visit” to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where he was joined by King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein. As part of their itinerary, the two monarchs visited the renowned Jordan Museum in the capital city of Amman. Upon their arrival, they were warmly welcomed by Princess Sumaya bint Al Hussein, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the museum. His Majesty Sultan Haitham took a tour of the museum, which houses exhibits that date back over one and a half million years, showcasing the rich historical legacy of Jordan from the Palaeolithic era to the present day.

During his visit to the Jordan Museum, His Majesty Sultan Haitham was given a detailed explanation about the various archaeological collections on display, including the famous Ain Ghazal statues which are considered to be the oldest human statues in the world. Other valuable historical discoveries were also showcased using interactive museum display methods. The Sultan took particular interest in models of human innovation and ancient methods that were used to address challenges of life and the environment, such as water harvesting systems, agricultural techniques, and innovative building materials.

In conclusion of the visit, His Majesty Sultan Haitham signed the museum’s VIP Register, expressing his delight at being able to explore the museum and its vast collection of antiquities that tell the story of Jordan’s ancient history. He commended the museum’s efforts in preserving Jordan’s heritage through its data, knowledge, and educational programs. The Sultan also graciously accepted a memento from the museum’s superintendents as a token of appreciation for his visit. The visit to the Jordan Museum was a memorable experience for His Majesty Sultan Haitham and King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, as they gained valuable insights into the rich cultural heritage of Jordan.

Accompanying His Majesty Sultan Haitham during his visit to the Jordan Museum was Prince Faisal Ibn Al Hussein, who is the Head of the Mission of Honour, along with other members of the official delegation. Their presence highlighted the strong bond between the Sultanate of Oman and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as they came together to celebrate and appreciate the shared history and culture of the two nations. The visit to the museum served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage, and the role that institutions like the Jordan Museum play in educating the public and future generations about the ancient civilizations that once thrived in the region.

Overall, the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham to the Jordan Museum was a testament to the enduring friendship and mutual respect between Oman and Jordan. By exploring the rich history and heritage of Jordan, the Sultan gained a deeper understanding of the contributions of ancient civilizations to the cultural tapestry of the region. The visit also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and collaboration in promoting peace and understanding among nations. As the Sultan and the King of Jordan continue to strengthen their diplomatic ties, visits like these serve as a reminder of the value of preserving and celebrating the diverse cultural heritage that unites people from different parts of the world.
