The Saudi Pro League (SPL) has been making waves in the world of Asian football, as it was recently ranked as the top domestic league in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions for 2024. The league’s international presence has been steadily growing, with TV viewership exceeding 200 million and broadcasts of three matches per week reaching an average of 160 countries. This summer, 14 SPL players even had the opportunity to compete in Euro 2024, showcasing the talent that the league has to offer. Additionally, 10 of the world’s top 100 players have joined the SPL, further solidifying its status as a top-tier league.

The third General Assembly of the SPL, chaired by Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Afaleq, provided key insights into the league’s recent achievements and future plans. Representatives from 16 member clubs attended the assembly, with only two clubs, Al-Orobah and Al-Riyadh Clubs, being absent. Chairman Al-Afaleq expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom’s leadership for their continuous support of the SPL, highlighting the crucial role they play in the development of the Saudi sports sector. He also thanked Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal for his unwavering support, which has significantly contributed to the progress of Saudi sports.

During the General Assembly, updates were provided on the SPL’s recent advancements, focusing on improvements in governance and growth in commercial revenues. The league introduced an updated organizational structure, established new departments, and implemented world-class internal regulations covering financial management, the board of directors’ charter, and the creation of committees for nomination, compensation, and audit. A new partnership with ticketing platform “Webook” was also highlighted, aimed at enhancing the fan experience on SPL matchdays.

The General Assembly approved the SPL’s financial statements and appointed Dr. Mohammed Al Amri and Co (BDO) as the independent legal accountant for a term of four financial years. Chairman Al-Afaleq emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the SPL and its member clubs to elevate the league’s technical, commercial, and organizational standards. The goal is to position the SPL among the world’s top leagues, ensuring that it continues to attract top talent and provide an exciting experience for football fans around the globe.
