In September 2024, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) in Bahrain released statistics for Bahrain International Airport, showcasing a strong month for passenger and cargo activity. The airport saw a total of 720,546 passengers, including 339,356 embarking passengers and 381,190 disembarking passengers. Additionally, there were a total of 8,478 flights, consisting of 4,242 departures, 4,236 arrivals, and 37,954 overflying aircraft. These numbers indicate continued growth in air travel and trade at the airport.

The high number of overflying aircraft at Bahrain International Airport highlights the country’s strategic location as a key transit point for international air travel. This plays a crucial role in facilitating trade and connecting Bahrain to various global destinations. In terms of cargo activity, the airport handled a total of 31,938 tons of cargo, including transshipment cargo, exports, and imports. This demonstrates a healthy balance of inbound and outbound goods, reaffirming Bahrain’s status as a regional trade hub.

When analyzing passenger growth from key destinations compared to September 2023, the statistics reveal significant increases in traffic. For example, flights from India (Kozhikode) saw a 26% rise in passenger numbers, reaching 13,371 passengers. Similarly, passenger traffic from Pakistan (Islamabad) experienced a notable 90% increase, with 9,320 passengers recorded. These statistics indicate the airport’s growing appeal to travelers from various regions, contributing to its overall success.

The robust passenger and cargo activity at Bahrain International Airport in September 2024 underlines the airport’s importance in supporting air travel and trade in the region. With a substantial number of flights and passengers passing through the airport, it serves as a vital transportation hub for both domestic and international travelers. The statistics released by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications reflect a positive trend in the airport’s performance, showcasing continued growth and success in the aviation industry.

As Bahrain International Airport continues to expand and enhance its services, it is expected to attract more passengers and cargo traffic in the coming years. With its strategic location, modern facilities, and efficient operations, the airport is well-positioned to further strengthen its role as a key player in the global aviation sector. The consistent growth in passenger numbers and cargo activity demonstrate the airport’s ability to meet the increasing demands of travelers and shippers, contributing to the overall economic development of Bahrain.
