The Qatar International Taekwondo Championship commences in Doha

The Qatar International Open Taekwondo Championship is set to kick off at Lusail Hall with players from 40 countries participating in the event. With four categories including cadet, juniors, youth, and adults, the tournament promises fierce competition and thrilling matches. This year, there has been an increase in participants compared to previous editions, indicating the growing popularity of the championship on an international level. The tournament will run through Saturday with daily awards up for grabs for the winners.

Secretary General of the Qatar Taekwondo, Judo, and Karate Federation, Eid Al Muraikhi, expressed full readiness for the championship and highlighted the importance of the event in the international rankings. The winners of the (G1) category will receive 10 classification points, which can significantly benefit their standings in the world rankings. Al Muraikhi also praised the success of the previous tournament, which set a high standard for this year’s edition and posed an organizational challenge that the team has successfully met.

Qatar’s experience in hosting major sports events has been evident in the success of tournaments like the Master Judo, Arab Judo, and World Judo Championships. Al Muraikhi mentioned ongoing discussions with the International Taekwondo Federation to host global events in Qatar, further solidifying the country’s reputation as a sports destination. With over 150 Qatari athletes participating in the tournament, there is a strong local engagement that adds to the excitement and enthusiasm surrounding the event.

The Qatar International Open Taekwondo Championship will feature morning and evening sessions, allowing spectators to enjoy a full day of action-packed matches.
